Description
  • After translation and post-translational modification in the cytosol, endoplasmic reticulum, and ERGIC (ER-Golgi intermediate compartment), Dengue virus (DENV) proteins localize to several other compartments interacting with host proteins. Large amounts of NS1 get secreted in the bloodstream and bind to and enter other cells, modulating innate and adaptive immune processes before those cells get infected. Other proteins affecting immune responses in infected cells are C, prM, the NS2B3 protease complex, and NS5. C and NS5 localize to the nucleus, where they also modulate apoptosis. Extracellular NS1 and nuclear NS5 contribute to Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) by binding cell-junction proteins. The NS3 protein can be imported into mitochondria.
